Westergas - The Other District, new name Westergasfabriek
The new owners of the Westergasfabriek are changing the name of the cultural site to "WESTERGAS, The Other District" and are setting a new course starting this spring. Expect a creative village full of surprising initiatives in culture, food and drink, sports, family, nature and nightlife.
The new direction will focus on surprisingly bringing together different forms of culture within the 17 historic buildings of the Westergasfabriek grounds. The new owners, namely Duncan & Lisca Stutterheim, Foppe Eshuis and Lennart Rottier, have gone in search of what connects, inspires and energizes. With the goal of grounding a new destination within Amsterdam. A 'cultural village' full of contrasts and surprises where there is always something to experience, at any time of day. Hence the name 'WESTERGAS, The Other District'.
"We see WESTERGAS as a creative village full of surprising initiatives with which we want to give the city and visitors a new inspiring experience. Energy, open, inspiration and creativity are the key words here for us," said Lisca and Duncan Stutterheim, the new owners of Westergas.
Westergas is building a daily changing program with its own and existing initiatives for young and old. Some of the buildings are being redeveloped. For example, the Meterhuis will become a pop-up gallery and Westergastheater will reopen with its own full-fledged programming. In addition, already established companies will be more involved in programming and new tenants, including World Press Photo, will find a new home at the Westergas.
The Westergas aims to pull all events as site-wide as possible. For example, around the Holland Festival this year there will be the Aus Licht Opera in the Gashouder, a special installation in the Ketelhuis, music events in the Westergastheater and special menus at the various restaurants on the grounds.
