Maurice Scheltens (b. 1972) and Liesbeth Abbenes (b. 1970) can be considered Holland's most progressive contemporary still-life photographers. The duo have succeeded in building an international, artistic practice at the tipping point between commissioned and autonomous photography. Foam presents the artist duo's largest museum solo exhibition to date.
The exhibition takes the visitor into the wonder of things as they present themselves to us in everyday life. In their studio, Scheltens & Abbenes dissect the essence of things by minutely and meticulously investigating the anatomy of objects. These range from colorful powder surfaces to shirts with a sharp crease in them to trucks with lush flowers on them. Objects come alive for them by taking them out of their everyday context, zooming in on them and framing them to carefully penetrate to their core.

ZEEN provides insight into an extensive body of work by the duo over the last 18 years. The exhibition consists of a large number of diptychs. Reproductions of the magazine pages in which Scheltens & Abbenes' photographs originally appeared are paired with prints taken out of context.
