Well, to find out, you would have to eat at every sushi joint in town. We know this is a lot of work, which is why Amsterdam Magazine has done the diligent work for you. After many fancy sushi dinners and quick grab-and-go experiences, we've compiled a list of Amsterdam's best sushi restaurants. Enjoy your meal!
Zushi
Amstel 20
You'll find Zushi in a 19th-century building on the Amstel River. Walk in and experience their relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for enjoying a serving of sushi with an intimate company. They have more than 40 different kinds of sushi and you can simply order it or wait and see what comes along on the conveyor belt. From the super tasty Aburi Sake Nigiri (whose salmon is marinated in sake for 24 hours) to the melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu Beef from the grill, Zushi understands everyone's unique tastes.
Mojo
Oosterdokskade 133
In the center of Amsterdam, dedicated sushi lovers can indulge at Mojo. For a fixed price, you can enjoy all the sushi you want, or just order sushi from their a la carte menu. They have all the traditional sushi on the menu, but their specials are also very tasty. Our personal favorites are the spicy tuna tartare, the hand roll with caviar or their rib-eye buns.
Kyoto
De Ruijterkade 42b
At Central Station, you can find Kyoto Sushi. Kyoto has been bringing Japanese food to Amsterdam since 1966. All their food is based on the recipes of Japanese chef Kenji Osone. You can enjoy well-priced specials like sushi bowls or meal sets from around €10, -, but they also have regular sushi, nigiri, maki and Japanese grill dishes. It's the perfect place to score a nice portion of sushi before jumping on the pound to explore Amsterdam Noord.
MOMO
Hobbema Street 1
MOMO is the place in town if you love sushi and cocktails! With their open kitchen, you can see exactly how the delicacies are prepared. In addition to sushi, they also serve other Asian dishes, ceviches and tiraditos.
Five-ZeroFive
Insulindeweg 505
In the middle of Amsterdam East, you'll find Five Five Kitchen Cafe. This is the ultimate hotspot for the best sushi and other Asian street food in the city. Step inside and experience Amsterdam's Asian street food culture. From steamed buns to daily fresh fish on your sushi, here you can eat until you're bomb-full.
AND
Dusart Street 53
AND is the sushi and sake bar in Amsterdam. Here they have a menu that changes with the season, so every month they have new surprises in store for you. Here you can also order a sake for each course that is perfectly matched to your sushi and other dishes, ask about the sake package for this. When you come here to eat, you can order a la carte or a 3-, 5- or 7-course meal.
KU Kitchen
Utrechtsestraat 114
Ku Kitchen and Bar first opened its doors in 2014. This is the place to be for excellent Japanese cuisine. A bright green backlit bar, brick walls and industrial accents create an appropriate setting for a modern Japanese restaurant that draws inspiration from Tokyo's trendiest neighborhoods. Ku Kitchen specializes in non-traditional Japanese dishes, but also serves the true classics.
Tanuki
Willem van Weldammelaan 41
Tanuki is inspired by traditional Japanese taverns and named after a folkloric raccoon figure with mystical powers. Chef Izakaya Tanuki offers authentic Japanese dishes in a modern, stylish interior with Japanese influences. Here they serve lunch or dinner and the menu features tasty, traditional sushi that will make your foodie heart beat faster.
The Harbour Club
Apollolaan 2 | Cruqiusweg 67
The Harbour Club has a number of prime locations in Amsterdam. Here they serve the best seafood in town and that, of course, includes sushi. In addition to using delicious fish, they also get extra points for ambiance as well as the ability to bring your I-don't-love-sushi friends.
