The bold turnaround from Michelin-starred chef Ron Blaauw to Ron Gastrobar two years ago has proven to be a tremendous success. At the time, renowned chef Ron Blaauw could no longer identify with the idea that top-level dining goes hand in hand with six amuses, four types of bread, seven courses and a friandis trolley. Blaauw completely changed course and opted for a totally different dining experience. An à la carte menu with 25 dishes a 15 euros each from which guests can choose throughout the evening.
The success of this formula smacks of more, and Ron recently opened the doors of the Asian version of Ron Gastrobar on Church Street, where Lola's previously held house. As in his Gastrobar, the Oriental version is approachable and dishes are 15 euros. "Just delicious, good and affordable," Blaauw said. "There are already so many sushi stores in Amsterdam, but I was missing a real Oriental restaurant, where the old Chinese cuisine is restored."
