The Schinkel neighborhood in Oudzuid, on the side of Hoofddorpplein, always lagged a bit behind when it comes to fine establishments where you can drink and eat. With the arrival of Stadscafé Van Mechelen, that is a thing of the past. In a former car garage on the Schinkelkade you will find a crazy place where you are welcome from early morning until late at night for a bite and a sip. Van Mechelen is divided into several sections, mostly raw and industrial-looking spaces with vintage furniture, cinema chairs and old advertising posters on the walls, and where many of the authentic elements that served in the past have been spared. The menu is a fine composition of classic dishes, each one kindly priced. Drinks here are a daily feast due to the large number of area businesses and young residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.
